I have over 20 years experience working within the mental health sector, including working with learning disabilities & autism as a Mental Health Nurse.
I started delivering training about 10 years ago, due to some of the bad practices that I had seen concerning the use of Physical Intervention within my work setting and training.
A lot of training that is out there is not legally accurate and doesn't reflect government guidance or NICE Guidelines. Generally they are not fit for purpose, leaving patients and staff at risk.
If things go very wrong within our field, it is the law we will have to answer to. So if we know what the law expects of us and abide by this, we will be in a better position in not allowing situations to go wrong.
